Step-by-Step: My Primary Bathroom Renovation Timeline

Step-by-Step: My Primary Bathroom Renovation Timeline by Houston interior designer firm Nancy Lane Interiors

We're closing in on the end of our own primary bathroom remodel (it's not quite in the state of completion of that photo above, but I'm sure dreaming of the day!) As we have progressed through this project, I started keeping a living file of the timeline, just to show you what every step of the process actually takes in terms of time, rather than estimates at the beginning of the project that never get revisited.

If you're in the beginning stages of preparing for your own bathroom remodel, have a look at this post about all the practicalities of moving out of your daily sanctuary, and then follow along below to know what to expect during the demo/construction process for a bathroom renovation timeline!

I have to say I haven't been this impressed with a demo for a project in my entire career. They didn't take sledgehammers to everything like you see on HGTV. The first day was a lot of prep work - covering everything and making sure belongings were protected from the dreaded demo dust. They took down all of the cabinetry, doors, and even the countertop IN ONE PIECE. They brought everything down the stairs and straight out, only after laying down gripper blankets with friction along the bottom all the way down to keep the operation tidy. I CAN'T EVEN!!

Day two of demo included a jackhammer for the floor tile, and day three covered taking the tile down in the shower. They had a big vacuum hose suctioning out all the dust through this whole process, and I have no idea where it was going, because my backyard was spotless after this.

I think it's safe to say I have the found a great team I want to work with on all future projects after seeing how diligent they were about being clean and organized about the demo.

We haven't had too many hiccups along the way (or at least not any that I couldn't solve with overnight shipping), and we are on schedule!

This week we're ending with a big week with a bang. Our vanities have been installed and I am at the moment listening to the installers drill on site for the holes for the sink faucets.

Next week is going to be jam packed as well as you can see below. I approved the stain color this morning on samples of the actual wood that our vanities are made of. The plan is to prep everything for stain and paint accordingly all week. Now that the countertops have been installed (by end of today), we can have measurements taken by our glass installer for the shower enclosure. The following week will be a fun one...it's all about the finishing touches - installing the pretty pieces like lighting, cabinet hardware, and plumbing fixtures.

I can't wait for this space to finally be finished, and to take a nice long bath in that new tub. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for after photos (there will be oh so many)! And if you'd like help with your next bathroom project, feel free to reach out and chat about your dream space!
