We're just about at the end of the line with our client coined "Good Sheriff of Nottingham" project, and I thought it would be fun to show the final push phase that happens after most finishes, paint, and lighting are done, as the punch list is being completed and before the furniture is installed!
This project goes to prove how, with the help of a great team, making a plan and working that plan can and will result in the home of your dreams. Our clients purchased this home in 2021 knowing they wanted to completely gut it down to the studs. Months of preplanning with their architect, builder, and NLI, followed by construction, they hit the 16 month mark right around the time they officially moved in. I repeatedly liken these whole house gut renovations to running a full marathon...they're not for the faint of heart but again if you do the proper prep work and are willing to lean in and trust your team when the going gets tough, you'll be not only thrilled but ecstatic when you cross the finish line.
One of the things I loved most about working with this couple, besides their trust in me, was that they were willing to have fun and take chances with paint colors and lighting throughout the house, and their dining room is a shining example of that!
This is one of the first rooms you see when you walk in their front door and its a showstopper that sets the tone for house as a whole. As you can see from our concept design board below, we used a lovely lilac hue above the custom wainscoting and found a great rug at Round Top that works beautifully in the room.
We topped it off with an sputnik type dandelion chandelier in brass, which looks fantastic with the vintage dining table and chairs we scored and had refinished and reupholstered!
Here's a sneak peek at the main living area....
Above I love scale of these kitchen pendants, the soft gray blue of the island, and how open the floor plan is in this main area!
and not to be ignored, the lovely light over the built in breakfast nook...it makes me happy...
We opted for a deeper shade of blue in the husband's formal study and its a stunner (as is the wife's study upstairs)! One of my favorite sayings in life and in design is "go big (and bold) or stay home!" so of course we went all in on the walls, trim, and ceiling.
This office was designed to house either a big computer screen or multiple screens with no problem, and plenty of filing cabinets based on the client's needs. If you read my last House in the Hood post and saw the office built in for that house, you'll know why I had so many thoughts on their choices!
When I said playful with colors, I meant it y'all! While waiting on wallpaper, we opted to paint the walls in the same blush color as the future wallpaper background and the cabinets, trim, and inside of the door a gorgeous chartreuse green. Pops of brass from the fixtures, hardware and lighting make this space feel like a jewel box...and that's before wallpaper!
Get ready for what I lovingly referred to as their multi purpose room...
How jealous I am of all of this glorious space in this multipurpose space! We went with a large scale wood look tile laid in a herringbone pattern. What you don't see from this angle is a twin set of washers/dryers (a dream for me who loves to do laundry) and disguised between the doors straight ahead is a pull down murphy bed for the occasional guests. This family of five has school aged kids and that Texas sized island is perfect not only for separating and folding laundry (those pullouts you see will hold individual laundry baskets) but school and craft projects too!
The primary bath ensuite features a shower room that can only be called a masterpiece in marble...
the #crappyiphonephoto above is skewing warm but here's a better idea of actual coloring...
While we channeled elegant sophistication in the primary ensuite using neutral tones of cool blue gray and nickel finishes, down the hallway, we pulled a punch. We selected a lovely lavender for the custom cabinetry while mixing brass accents for the hardware and always timeless nickel for the fixtures in the daughters bathroom!
Here's a better view of her tub surround...classic subway tile but with a twist on the pattern...and don't forget about what I call the fifth wall...this space was perfect for taking the tile onto the ceiling...
Meanwhile in her brothers' shared bathroom space, we used an elongated subway tile set in a soldier pattern, and again carried it up to the ceiling. Simple but stunning, modern yet still classic and timeless.
One last space for today...the dark and moody entertainment room...
You gotta love this gorgeous accent of wall to wall brick...to me it gives this space a real speakeasy bar vibe especially once the motorized blackout shades are installed...
