I'm thankful for every season, but I have to say I love fall most of all. While it's still much too hot to say that fall has arrived here in Houston, I'm all in for sweater weather and the whole season, and not just for cooler weather. After all, fall also means frequent trips to Round Top, then High Point for market, and those two trips also mean my birthday is coming! If you're also trying to get into the feeling that only autumn brings, or live somewhere else where the temps have dropped below 90, here are a few of our Favorite Fall Home Decor Finds for this year.
Our Favorite Fall Home Decor Finds
Fall always has me in the mood for added texture, esp. velvet. I love layering bedding and this year I'll be adding a layer of velvet pieces in one of these yummy colors.
I seriously dig these footed bowls - they're perfect for displaying fall like colors using the likes of oranges, artichokes, pears, and green or red apples. Faux or real are options for these beautiful bowls. We collect similar pieces during our jaunts to Round Top and markets throughout the year and use them in styling clients homes...think kitchen counters and dining tables, as well as in living rooms on built ins or coffee tables. We've even used them in entry ways as catch-all's for keys and mail.
You can find ceramic vases like these above in all kind of colors but I especially like them in black. It gives the moodier, textural patina look I'm looking for going into the cozier months.
While I personally prefer large oversized ones for styling, we buy and use every size we can get our hands on. We use branches, both real and faux, along with greenery or flowers depending on the mood and season we're in.
Case in point...we photographed this project earlier this summer and cut branches from our client's yard. It would be an easy switch to use oranges, pears, or red apples in a bowl along with real or faux branches to bring in more autumnal colors.
Did you know H&M has home decor now?? Katherine on my team introduced me to their vases, and they do not disappoint! Textured glass vessels in this warm transparent beige/amber tone is gorgeous in person, and look how the light catches it! We love these with florals or without.
These glass vases below will take you from fall through New Year's and beyond. My motto is always go big or stay home and when you're shopping on your own, remember scale! This is a great size for coffee tables but remember on a dining room table, you'll want to be able to see the guest across from you so plan accordingly.
Use branches, or fresh, faux, or dried flowers with these. This faux millet in the photo screams fall, and you could do mini pumpkins when Halloween comes around. You can also use acorns or other shell nuts through Thanksgiving, colored glass ornaments for Christmas or Hanukkah... the options are endless! I'm thinking mini disco balls personally for my own home this holiday season, which would take you perfectly into New Year's.
Fun fact: I actually use multiple clear glass vases like these for centerpieces at our wedding reception. I varied their heights from tall to votive atop a large glass mirror. We filled some with pebbles, sand, and candles, while others held flowers or water with floating candles. It was magical.
Designer Tip: If you like the idea of grouping items too, remember things arranged in odd numbers are more appealing, memorable, and effective than even-numbered groupings. I call it "the rule of three" whereas three seems to be "THE" magic number in decorating, but as I did for my wedding, arrangements of 5, 7, or 9 work nicely too.
Enjoy this season y'all! Even if its still hot outside where you are, there are wonderful ways for you to start preparing for fall inside your home and for the holiday season that will soon be right behind that. So light those pumpkin spice candles, pull out new pillows and throws, and light that fireplace (even if you have to turn the ac down like we do)! It's fall y'all!!
