You've seen the media room, the primary suite, the living room, the kitchen, and the adjoining dining room of this beautiful house so far, and today it's time to bring you into the the loft and powder bath! Have a scroll through to see how we updated these spaces for this sweet family! Let's start with the before shall we?
The loft sits right at the top of the stairs. With the new open concept downstairs and the new open stairwell railing, we knew the loft was bound to be a spotlight showcase moment. While we didn't have a need for another home office or playroom, it's definitely strategically placed and perfect for family life in my humble opinion. It's close enough to the playroom for mom or dad to chillax with a book or device while kids are knee deep in dolls or watching cartoons, but in the future will be a fantastic spot to give the kids their own autonomy while mom or dad is one shriek away!
Just like the rest of the house, we painted this space all white to brighten it up!
I had just returned from High Point Market where we spied these fantastic custom swivel chairs and filed the info into our catalog. While they were quite oversized, and I knew they would be a great option for a reading space. As soon as I walked up the stairs during our initial consultation my mind went to these swivels. In pure NLI kismet fashion, we triple checked measurements and were delighted when we confirmed a pair of these would fit perfectly with room to move and not impede flow to either wing of the house.
In terms of artwork, these antique metal records had been in storage for years, but these were enjoyed and listened to by many generations of this family. I ask clients from the beginning to start thinking of things they have collected over the years or if there's anything meaningful to them that they want to use. Generally we'll ask clients to gather items together for us to review during the design concept stage so that we can keep them in mind as we develop the final design plan. One day last summer as we went through boxes in their garage, as soon as I saw these in a cardboard box, I'm pretty sure I gasped out loud. Talk about patina...worn copper metal with signs of aging but still in good condition. Swoon! I immediately had a vision of framing them in acrylic frames like this in my mind, and knew we had to make it happen!
The instrument that actually plays these records is temporarily sitting between the two chairs as an homage to this family's rich history. I am bit worried about the delicate nature of this piece with kids running around, so I believe they will move it into the adult media room in the future, at least I suggested they do so!
This space is definitely a case of less is more when it comes to art and accessories in all the right ways. It came together so beautifully with the artwork and mix of metals married with the texture of the chair fabrics and soft goods plus this indoor/outdoor rug whose pattern mimics the shape of the swivel chairs but also offers a little linearity to break up all the circles in this space. I call it loft perfection! Now back downstairs and onto the powder room...
What a time capsule, huh? We didn't need to change the layout, but changing the finishes made all the difference for this powder bath!
This wallpaper is absolutely divine and even more stunning in person I promise!! I've always loved this print and in every colorway but I knew the green would be the best touch in this jewel box of a powder bath. We joked that one of these clients couldn't un-see spaghetti noodles when she first saw the clouds, but that just added to the fun and whimsy, in my opinion!
We used brass for all the finishes in this room - the light fixture, faucet, mirror and cabinet hardware. They all pop perfectly against the charcoal black of the wallpaper!
These two spaces may be among the smallest in this house, but I think you'll agree that they make a big impact! Let me know what your favorite thing was in either (or both) of these spaces in the comments below. I'd love to hear all about it!
