I've gotten quite a few questions lately about the different services we offer in addition to full service furnishings, so I thought why not explain our process of design if you're build-team shopping right now and considering working with NLI. Whether you have a new construction project or a home remodel, we are here to guide you through all of the steps to get to the finish line!

How We Can Help

NLI specializes in both full service design services for new construction, as well as full or partial home remodels. For these projects, we work alongside builders, contractors, architects, and other professional services to guide you through the various stages of your construction project. As the interior designer on your team, we curate design details and specifications, handle logistics and procurement for items we purchase for the project, as well as project observation once the design plans have been finalized and construction on your project begins.

Hard finishes like tile, flooring, and plumbing or trim are typically handled by the contractor, whereas we usually handle procurement and installation of wallpaper and accent lighting, depending on the client's needs. For construction projects, in our experience, we've found it best to finalize all hard finish selections before moving on to design plans for furnishings and soft goods.

Design

After meeting and discussing a client's lifestyle, wants, needs, and style preferences, we develop a bespoke plan for the project with designated meetings to get client feedback along the way, culminating in our detailed design plan presentation with products that have been hand-selected from our network of trusted industry vendors. I make it a point to attend multiple market trade shows across the country annually to make sure I have personally felt and seen the quality of the pieces we are specifying, so you can rest easy about that aspect of your decisions. Clients receive a curated collection of new, vintage, and custom pieces from vendors that are unavailable to the general public, so you can feel good that you are receiving a truly custom experience for your home.

Procurement + Project Organization

From the time we place orders for furniture, artwork, lighting, window treatments, and wallpaper, we are tracking the progress of each item. We have a company dashboard for procurement and logistics so we are always on top of deliveries, warning our receivers of incoming items, and handling any issues with damage. We work very closely with our receivers as they inspect each piece that comes into the warehouse. Problems are taken care of and replacements are ordered as soon as possible by our team, without having to stress the client out. All of this work is done to ensure that your install (or series of mini-installs #thankssupplychainissues) will move seamlessly.

Logistics

From the beginning, we work with you to make sure that we stay within our agreed upon budget and work within your timeline to the best of our ability. We also coordinate window treatment installers, wallpaper hangers, electricians, and any handy-people that are needed to complete the final install. The moving parts of a project can be overwhelming, especially if this is your first large project, so it really does help to have a designated point person in your corner.
