Are You Wanting to Try Wallpaper? Here's How!

The world of wallpaper has come very far since the options we had in the 70s and 80s (remember when ceiling borders were all the rage?). Wallpaper may make you think of your grandparents' or parents' house, but now wallpaper is a fun, unique touch to add to any room! As a matter of fact, just yesterday we had the pleasure of installing a gorgeous wallpaper in an unusual way...on a ceiling. #can'twaittoshowy'all!

If the idea of a large room covered in wallpaper is completely overwhelming, you might try dipping your toes in a small powder bathroom to start! It's just the right size to try something fun, bright, or just different from the rest of your home. I often refer to powder rooms as little jewel boxes...where you open the door to the smallest room in your house but, when transformed, can really be a little treasure chest to behold just like my very first client project featured above!

If you're not sure where to start, scroll through for a few ideas from past powder bathroom projects from us here at Nancy Lane Interiors.

Can you find the electric plug? Our installer is a genius!

Starting with our new own studio office powder bathroom! Oh my goodness, I love this print so so much - this was just installed last week, and I had to include it in this roundup even though we still have a little bit more to do.

This bathroom has been bare walled forever I'll admit #cobblerschildrenhavenoshoes. I can't tell you how many samples I've looked at when serendipity occurred. I just happened to see this palmetto print in the James showroom in Houston. It comes in a variety of blues, teals, neutrals, and this vibrant green, and I just fell head over heels in love with it. #palmettobluffstateofmind

That's my number one criteria for wallpaper - there has to be a visceral feeling of loving it, for my own projects and for my clients! And remember - if it's bold, even better!! As long as you love it, does it matter what others may think?! Plus, just imagine it being like walking into the most beautifully wrapped Christmas present every day! If it makes your heart go pitter patter when you see it, it's a winner!

This is a quick iPhone grab of one of our most recent client installs, but stay tuned for photos of the entire space. This wallpaper was perfect because it was perfect for this client. Every single color of this wallpaper is part of her home in some way, and she loves a little bit of quirkiness in home decor, so it made for the perfect choice for her bathroom! This iPhone photo does not do it justice.

Believe it or not, we were debating a dog wallpaper in this powder bathroom project above because this client loves her pups so much (I do too...they're the sweetest and funniest pups), but I ended up finding this blue pineapple print and knew it was the one. The client loved it, and it was absolutely the right choice for her and her home! The blue tones carry beautifully from the entry and hallway right outside the vestibule door (note too the haint blue ceiling) PLUS the client is one of the most warm and welcoming people I've ever met (did you know that pineapples are often considered signs of hospitality, welcome, and friendship...if not, now you know!).

Maybe you're looking for texture more than print. In this client bathroom above, I felt needed to be a calm visual place for the eyes to rest because the rest of the house holds a fantastic collection of colorful artwork that is bright and bold and not stationary...she moves pieces around as she acquires new ones. This client has a busy household with kids and pets and wanted something that would be water resistant and maintenance free, and you can't get any better than vinyl grass cloth. Natural grass cloth has much more texture for sure, but my one story of a five year old using the bathroom, picking at the threads of texture, and ripping off those pieces is enough for all of my clients to go to the vinyl grass cloth route...at least in households with littles. Trust me, it's worth it.

See what I mean about going bold! This powder room above packs a punch with both color and pattern. Remember that this is your space to live in and see every day - surround yourself with things you love! What might be busy or too bold for some people is absolutely perfect for another.

I love this metallic dot wallpaper for a little bit of shimmer and depth from different angles in the bathroom! This powder bath was part of a larger home renovation after this sweet client's home was flooded by Hurricane Harvey. We didn't have a lot of the budget left once we got to this room, but we were still able to create a stunning space.

I'm hoping this post inspires you to say yes to wallpaper that you love, no matter what you think others might say. If you're looking for some help in transforming your home (with or without wallpaper ;), don't hesitate to contact me here!
